Mash ups and Music

Todays topic was Mashups and we were assigned to create our own mash up for a student to student review in class. This is the first time as an artist i've ever decided to create a mash up and step once again outside of my comfort zone and create a track that has bits and pieces of sound from my own feels and other artist that inspire the sounds that i produce.

So beginning from start to finish as i pondered the different genres of mash up's and styles of sounds i was wishing to produce and the millions of different sounds that are created daily to produce mash ups i found my-self over analysing to many sounds and i became confused as to were to start and what style of genre mash up i wanted to produce so i decided to start with the basic's and simplfy the sound bye asking myself first WWMID (What Would My Inspirations Do?)

Starting with firstly, i asked my self a few simply questions such as

What is a Mash-up?

A mashup (also mesh, mash up, mash-up, blend, bootleg and bastard pop/rock or ambient/country or in this case trap music mixed with ambient dance music.) A mash -up is a creative work, usually in a form of a song, created by blending two or more pre-recorded songs, usually by overlaying the vocal track of one song seamlessly over the instrumental track of another or producing your own genre of sound and mixing with another completely different genre.

How do you make a Mash-up?

Maybe you think you need special software. Maybe you’re scared of beat matching with acappellas. Or maybe mixing in key is what’s holding you back. Today’s article is designed to get you over all of these hurdles. You can use your normal DJ software, to create this mash up i used the Serato DJ PRO software on my pioneer dj deck XDJ-RX2’s to calculate the Bpm of the songs and analyse then and then i used Logic Pro X to mix the Mash UP in my Daws system, (please not that the original track from Yellow Claw and Djsnake was purchased legally through Itunes). The patches and stems used for the track were either produced bye myself or Purchased through Mac-loops.

The above link is for a website that i trend on as well as visit quite frequently to gain knowledge, read blogs and also help to find inspiration from other artist and source or resource information in regards to current work that i'm working on or help when i find i have a creative block.

The above link i found to be very resourceful in my mash up creation and would advice anyone in the creative arts industry to give it a look if wishing to find inspiration in there creative productions.

Is it best to mix in key or mix bye BPM?

It’s also useful to keep in mind that certain keys can evoke specific feelings. For example, C minor can sound romantic and whimsical, while D major can sound triumphant, and D minor can sound gloomy.Generally speaking, major scales sound happy and elated (think of a peak-time David Guetta anthem), while minor scales sound sad and wistful (think of Adele’s “Someone Like You”).

I've decided to do this mash up mixing with the BPM reference to use my own genre and the genre of DJSnake and yellow claw. You could slice up one of the songs (Let's call that song 1 for now, and let's call the song you "Mix" into song 2).

Set up a new project for your mashup. Or use the one in which you made the mashup. Then I recommend you set the BPM of the project to the BPM of song 2.Now you can bring song 1 and 2 into your project. At this point you have to decide if you want to keep the BPM of song 1 as it is, or bring it to the BPM of song 2.You can slice up song 1 into any musical length you want, like 1/4 (the most used one).

Of course you take a slice from the point you want to start bringing in song 2. Now just put a lot of those slices one behind another and try out some nice mixing tricks like fading in song 2 while fading out song 1. This part of the artist production is completely about the feels of the sound and what every producer wishes to create based of there own artist feel and vision of the mash up.now go out and give something new a try try stepping out of your comfort zone and give it a shot only you have the power to change and put something cool out there in the world to share with others.being able to believe in yourself is always the first step of your journey.
